Goals
At the Escola de Futebol Prof. Augusto Moura Jr., football is the starting point — not the only destination. Our main goal is the sporting and civic development of our students, helping them grow up healthy through regular sport, in a safe and structured environment.
We value fun as an essential part of learning — it’s through playing and laughing that children build the love of sport that will stay with them for life. But fun goes hand in hand with discipline: it’s the small habits of responsibility, punctuality, and respect that shape not only better athletes, but better people.
It’s also in training sessions and matches that our students learn one of the most important lessons sport can teach — working as a team, trusting their teammates, and putting the collective ahead of the individual.
Finally, the Football School plays a key role in building the future of Clube União Micaelense: developing athletes capable of, over time, feeding into the club’s competitive age groups — and, for the most talented and dedicated, perhaps one day wearing the first team shirt.
Structure
Beyond Clube União Micaelense’s own management and technical structure, the Escola de Futebol Prof. Augusto Moura Jr. is made up of a Director, a qualified Coach responsible for each group, and a wider team of other young staff members completing the technical team.
In addition, the school has the full support of a team from Clube União Micaelense for administrative management and for managing training spaces and equipment.
School Groups
The Escola Prof. Augusto Moura Jr. is organised into three groups according to students’ age groups. For the 2026/2027 school year, the groups will be:
UNIS GROUP | Children born in 2022 and 2023
PETIZES GROUP | Children born in 2020 and 2021
TRAQUINAS GROUP | Children born in 2018 and 2019
Training Days, Times and Locations
UNIS GROUP | 2 training sessions a week, 5:45–6:45 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the University of the Azores pavilion
PETIZES GROUP | 2 training sessions a week, 5:45–7:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the University of the Azores pavilion
TRAQUINAS GROUP | 3 training sessions a week, 5:15–6:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays at Campo Municipal Jácome Correia, and on Fridays at the University of the Azores pavilion
Activities
Beyond regular training, students at the Escola de Futebol Prof. Augusto Moura Jr. will also take part in:
Get-Togethers (Convívios)
Promoted by the Ponta Delgada Football Association (AFPD) and organised by different clubs across the island, these get-togethers are held monthly. In these events, known as “Petizes Get-Togethers” (morning) and “Traquinas Get-Togethers” (afternoon), our students are split into teams and play several short matches (around 8 minutes each) against other clubs, in 3v3 (plus goalkeepers) format for Petizes, or 4v4/5v5 (plus goalkeepers) for Traquinas.
Results are not recorded — what matters most is the opportunity to play, learn, develop, and have fun together.
Given their age, our Unis group students do not take part in these get-togethers.
Commemorative Days
The Escola Prof. Augusto Moura Jr.’s Annual Activity Plan includes a number of initiatives throughout the school year, including Halloween, Christmas, Carnival, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day activities held during training sessions.
